The Side Stripes

The side stripes on the rocker panels were found on all Shelby Mustangs. The 1965 stripes were painted on. Later years were adhesive-backed tape. The original tape stripes were 3M ScotchCal vinyl. Almost all Shelby/Mustang vendors carry the tape stripes. They are as good  as if not better than the original stripes.  Don't worry if the colors are not an exact match to the car, they weren't a match originally either.

To lay out the stripes, use the lower edge of the 'C' scallop on the side of the car as your reference. The top edge of the stripe is one inch below the lower edge of the scallop. The scallop runs across the door, and the forward part of the rear fender is parallel with the lower edge of the rocker panel.  The only other reference is where the letters GT 350/500 begin. This starts one-half inch, measured at the lower portion of of the G (on the passenger side) or the 0 (on the driver's side.) The point to measure from is just where the letter or number begins its radius. The center stripe picks up one-half inch after the 0 (on the passenger side) or before the G (on the driver's side.) and runs forward to the front fender opening edge.

The 1968 Side Stripe

The 1968 stripes ran 1/8" above the bottom of the door. The GT350/500 letters & numbers were centered between the wheel openings and the door edge.   View a diagram of the 1968 Shelby Mustang Stripes.
