Top 8 Best Dash Cam for Truckers on the Market in 2021 Reviews
1 VAVA Dual – Best Twin Camera Dash Cam for Truckers
While you may not have heard of VAVA before, we are sure you will hear a lot more about them with products like this. Featuring a unique 360° swivel design, Full HD recording, and a dual-camera system, amongst other useful trucker features.
Everything you need to get started is included in the box. You’ll find the cameras, a charger, camera mount, snapshot buttons, adhesive, a small crowbar, cables, and some cable clips. Batteries and an SD card are also included.
Superior camera sensor…
Having two separate cameras means you can have one forward-facing, and the second can either face the rear or inside the cabin. Video is captured using a Sony IMX307 sensor in the main camera and an IMX323 in the secondary. Therefore, this is one of the most versatile dash cams you will find.
What’s useful for truckers is the wide-angle lenses with 155° primary and 126° secondary, both with superior Sony Night Vision. This clear video footage, including GPS information, can be viewed directly over your smartphone via a free App using a WiFi connection.
Keeping you safe and protected…
Even if your truck is parked with the engine off, the onboard battery can provide up to 72 hours of footage. The in-built sensor will detect any bumps or movement and begin recording immediately, offering an added level of security.
A unique feature of VAVA is the Bluetooth Snapshot Button. If you ever need to take a quick still shot, this wireless remote can do so with the quick push of the button. Perfect for when on the road and quick action is required.
- The dual-camera system gives twice the coverage.
- High-quality Sony sensor with Superior Night Vision.
- Handy Bluetooth Snapshot Button.
- Not as affordable as other products.
- The primary camera only has a suction cup mount.
2 Blueskysea B4K – Best Ultra HD Dash Cam for Truckers
If you are after a bang for your buck device, you should consider the Chinese-made Blueskysea products. This B4K dash cam offers Ultra HD footage at an affordable price while still providing quality performance and features.
Video is recorded with a resolution of 3840 x 2160p at a frame rate of 30 frames per second. For any truckers that need to rely on highly detailed, crystal clear images, this would make a great choice without breaking the budget. As a result, this is one of the best high quality video dash cams on the market.
The camera uses a Novatek NT96670 processor and a Sony STARVIS IMX415 CMOS sensor. Combining these two components provides video recorded with a bitrate of 26 Mbps offering fantastic daytime footage and above-average nighttime images.
Images are captured through a wide-angle lens providing a 120° angle field of vision. This prevents any recording blind spots considering the truck’s larger size. The footage is saved to an inserted SD card, including GPS information such as speed and location data.
Because dash cams can be harder to access for truckers, having remote control via a smartphone App is almost essential. Connecting using WiFi, you can check live view, review footage, and even adjust camera settings and preferences.
There is also an in-built 3.16-inch display at the rear of the camera unit that can be used to review footage and access menu settings. If any accidents do occur, thanks to the in-built G-Sensor, the footage will automatically be saved and cannot be easily overwritten.
- Ultra HD, clear, and detailed video capture.
- Wide-angle 120° lens reduces blind spots.
- Control the camera wirelessly using the smartphone App.
- No SD Card is included with the camera.
- Nighttime recording could be better.
3 Aukey DR02 – Best Wide Angle Dash Cam for Truckers
While this particular dashcam from Aukey doesn’t offer an App with a remote connection, or battery operation, it does offer a useful trucking feature. The 170° wide-angle lens is sure to capture your surroundings without missing a thing.
Another advantage is that it’s one of the most affordable dash cams for truckers here. Just because it is of great value doesn’t mean that it’s low quality either. Aukey uses a Sony Exmor IMX323 camera sensor, known for low light performance.
Compact design filled with features…
The footage is recorded in Full HD 1920 x 1080p resolution to an inserted SD Card with up to 128 GB of storage. Playback can be completed by either viewing the small built-in screen at the rear of the camera or by transferring your files to a PC.
Furthermore, this is one of the best night time dash cams we’ve seen. This is thanks to the high-quality Sony sensor, which uses WDR. Record high-quality images without blur or graininess in even the lowest light conditions.
Stay safe on the road…
By using a built-in G-Sensor, the dash cam can detect if there is a sharp turn or sudden stop. A recording will automatically commence, and the footage will be saved and flagged as important for quick and easy review.
As an optional extra, you can purchase a hardwire kit and GPS antenna. The hardwire kit enables parking protection, while the GPS antenna offers location and speed data to be added to your footage.
- Affordable option.
- Good low light performance.
- Emergency recording.
- No remote App support,
- Parking and GPS functions are additional extras.
4 Garmin Dash Cam Mini – Best Mini Dash Cam for Truckers
Surely most people will have heard of Garmin when they think of dashcams by now. It is little wonder that one of their products has made it to our list. They are one of the most respected companies in the industry and with good reason.
This is one of the smallest dash cam units that we’ve ever seen. It is only 2.1 x 1.1 x 1.1 inches (5.3 x 2.8 x 2.8 centimeters), making it incredibly easy to be discrete with. And it still offers amazingly detailed and clear video footage. All of which makes this one of the best tiny dash cams for truckers.
Remote App support…
Because the unit is so small, there is no screen attached. Nearly all the functions are completed by installing the Garmin Drive App. You are then able to access real-time footage, review saved clips, and change any settings and preferences.
Surprisingly, Garmin has managed to fit WiFi, Bluetooth, an SD Card slot, and a 140° wide-angle lens all in this compact unit. There are some tiny controls on the dashcam itself, but it’s much easier to use your smartphone.
Impressive image quality…
Garmin chose to use a Sony IMX323 sensor for their dashcam that records in Full HD 1920 x 1080p resolution. Built-in stabilization ensures that footage is smooth, without any jitters or shakes. Daytime images suffering from minimal overexposure are the only weakness.
Nighttime footage captures a huge amount of detail, even though there is a slight orange hue. As a sacrifice for its tiny size, you do miss out on any GPS functionality, or battery operation, as the unit requires a power source.
- Incredibly compact size helps to keep discrete.
- Easy to use and navigate support App.
- Stable, clear, and accurate footage day and night.
- The unit requires a power source with no battery backup.
- No GPS functionality.
5 Blueskysea B2K – Best Budget Dash Cam for Truckers
Next in our Best Dash Cam for Truckers reviews, we have another product here from the guys at Blueskysea, this time called the B2K. It is a small cube-shaped dash cam that is extremely affordable and still provides fantastic results for truckers wanting some added protection.
This device still manages to pack in all the features you would expect, plus some you wouldn’t, given its affordability. Video resolution is shot at 2K 2560 x 1440p resulting in detailed and clear footage. Meaning, this is one of the best affordable dash cams for truckers out there.
Using your sensors…
Blueskysea’s B2K uses a 5 MP Sony IMX335 STARVIS sensor combined with a wide-angle 135° glass lens. The reason so many dashcam manufacturers choose to use Sony sensors is because of their superior low light capabilities.
A built-in G-Sensor instructs the dash cam to automatically start recording in emergencies. The footage will then be locked onto the SD card and cannot be easily erased. It is also easily accessible for quick review.
At the rear of the dashcam is a 1.5-inch screen that can be used to review footage and access camera menu settings. This can also be done by installing the KaKaOk App for either Android or iOS devices.
Connecting your dashcam to your device using WiFi will then allow you to view live footage. You can also manage and review any saved clips and also make any changes to the camera remotely. Handy for truckers that might not be able to access the camera easily.
- Affordable budget dash cam option.
- 2K 2560 x 1440p high resolution footage.
- Control the camera remotely using the KaKaOk App.
- No GPS function is possible.
- Hardwire kit is purchased separately.
6 Pruveeo D30H – Best Dual Channel Dash Cam for Truckers
This dashcam from Pruveeo has both a front and rear-facing camera built-in to the main unit. One to capture the road ahead, while the rear-facing camera can capture the cabin. This is a larger device than the others we have looked at so far.
It can still easily be mounted on the windshield without being a distraction. The Pruveeo D30H has plenty of features that will be useful for truckers while out on the road, and all without breaking the bank.
Twice the sensor…
Both the front and rear cameras use a Sony IMX 323 sensor. Both lenses offer a 150° wide-angle field of view, with the rear-facing camera having four infrared lights. This enables clear footage, even in complete darkness.
At the rear of the dashcam is a 2-inch LCD screen that can be used to view live footage and also review saved clips. Using the buttons to the side of the screen, you can also navigate through camera settings.
Video clips are saved by inserting an SD Card into the side of the dashcam. Up to a 128 GB card can be used for saving the footage. By downloading the Tima Cam App, you can also save, watch, and organize your footage on your smartphone.
Using either the App or dashcam controls, you have access to settings like the G-Sensor emergency recording. It can sense any sudden movements in the vehicle and immediately begins recording.
- Both a front and a rear-facing camera.
- Wide 150° field of view on both cameras.
- Can be remotely controlled via a smartphone.
- Larger in size than other devices.
- The front camera’s low light performance is below average.
7 VIOFO A119 V3 – Best High Resolution Dash Cam for Truckers
As far as low-cost, high-quality dash cams go, VIOFO seems to have struck a great balance. That is exactly what the A119 V3 delivers with its great video quality and high reliability, along with an attractive design and affordable price tag.
This is one of the very few dashcams that offers a buffered parking mode in this price range. Being a trucker, this can come in handy, as you are often required to make stops or deliveries and can’t monitor your vehicle at all times.
Clear, detailed footage…
Video footage can be recorded up to QHD 2560 x 1440p at 30 frames per second. Reducing any graininess or frame jumps is the high bitrate of 30.8 Mbps. VIOFO uses a Sony IMX335 STARVIS 5 MP sensor.
A wide-angle lens offers a 140° field of view, which should cover the entire width of most trucks. Having an angle any wider than 140° often begins to distort the image, making accurate perception during playback more difficult.
Track using GPS…
In-built GPS tags all recorded footage with location, time, and speed data, which is of great assistance when making any insurance claims. Even during nighttime, the addition of HDR allows for impressive low-light footage.
Reviewing footage can be done using the inbuilt 2-inch screen found at the rear of the dashcam. You can also transfer your footage from the inserted SD card to your PC. Unfortunately, there is no remote App support for this product.
- QHD high-resolution footage recorded at 30.8 Mbps.
- Built-in GPS for speed, time, and location tagging.
- Buffered parking mode.
- No wireless remote access.
- Not as affordable as other options.
8 Blueskysea B1W – Best Compact Dash Cam for Truckers
To finish off, we had to include one more product from Blueskysea as their price to quality and performance ratio is fantastic. The B1W is a small, compact dash cam that features a camera that can rotate a full 360°.
There is no LCD screen for viewing your footage, but that allows for the device to be smaller and hidden away easier. There are plenty more great features useful for truckers, so let’s see what it has to offer.
Video footage can be recorded at up to Full HD 1920 x 1080p resolution at 30 fps with a bitrate of 12 Mbps. This means detailed, smooth footage with no graininess making events easily reviewed when needed.
For this dashcam, Blueskysea uses a Sony IMX323 CMOS sensor with a wide-angle glass lens. The field of vision is 150° capturing a wide enough area to cover beyond the extremities of most trucks.
Convenient remote viewing…
By installing the App to your smartphone, which is available on both Android and iOS, you have complete remote access. View and manage footage, as well as access all the camera’s settings and preferences right from your phone.
Thanks to the G-Sensor, the camera will always be recording in the case of an emergency. The dashcam will detect any sharp turns or sudden stops and immediately begin recording. Footage will also be locked to the device for easy retrieval.
- Compact and convenient design.
- Remotely controlled from your smartphone.
- Emergency recording via the G-Sensor.
- Other products have higher video quality.
- No LCD screen for menu access or footage review.
Best Dash Cam for Truckers Buying Guide
Even though trucks do have some slightly different requirements to a car when it comes to dashcams, there are still plenty of options available. Each of these products will offer an added sense of security and protection to any trucker.
Some of these products offer features for more specific needs, and that’s why we include this handy buying guide. By pointing out the key differences between these products, it will hopefully help you make the most informed decision.
As most trucks have large cabins, accessing the dashcam from the driver’s seat can be difficult. By being able to access the device remotely via a smartphone makes things much easier. Most of the devices have this function, but not all.
The Aukey DR02 and the VIOFO A119 V3 do not offer remote access via an App. They do, however, contain a screen for accessing menu items and reviewing footage. You can still, of course, transfer your footage to a PC.
Due to the nature of trucking, you will often need to leave the vehicle unattended. Whether it is so, you can make a delivery, have a break, or even between shifts. Many of these devices offer a parking protection feature, but only two have it built-in.
A hardwire kit is usually available for the other products, which makes this feature possible. But if you don’t wish to bother with this, then you should consider either the VAVA Dual system or the VIOFO A119 V3.
You should, by now, have a better understanding of what each of these products has to offer. If you are still unsure of which product is best for you, then check out our next section. We reveal our choice for the best truckers dash cam and why.
