It’s time. You’ve finally got your garage cleaned out. Your tools are organized, and projects are ready. But there’s one thing you need – a workbench.
Not only is a workbench critical to the design of a garage workshop, but it’s also the centerpiece. The worktop can be used for woodworking, electronics, machining parts, fixing machines, and so much more.
Drawers, pegboards, and shelves on your workbench can become excellent organizational and storage solutions. All you need is to find the right one for you, which is why we’ve put together this review of the best garage workbenches currently available.

Top 8 Best Garage Workbenches on the Market in 2021 Reviews
1 WORX Pegasus Multi-Function Work Table and Sawhorse – Best Budget Garage Workbench
Dimensions: 31″ x 25″ x 32″ LWH
We’re starting with a workhorse. Specifically, it’s the Pegasus by Worx. This workbench is different from all the others in our review and a whole lot cheaper. We include it here in case this is the workbench you might be in the market for. And because it’s one of the best cheap garage workbenches available.
At just a bit over $100, you’re getting a small table that you can use for all sorts of different projects. It’s made from molded, durable ABS plastic with steel supports and fittings and weighs only 25 pounds. This table folds up and is easy to cart around. So you can work on it in the garage on cold days and set it up in your drive when the weather’s good.
So what’s special about it?
This workbench has two wings that can fold down to convert it into a sawhorse. With the wings up, the table can take a 300-pound load, while as a sawhorse, it can stand up to 100 pounds. Not bad.
The table comes with built-in (but removable) clamps as well as pre-drilled dog holes and a set of four plastic pegs to clamp your work to. It also has measurements in inches and metric molded right onto the top surface. It even has a small shelf down below to hold tools and materials.
Convenient, but there are some downsides…
The clamps have rubber ends which might allow too much movement when using power tools. The tabletop is also not flat. The wings swing up but don’t reach a perfect 180 degrees. And the table is small at only 32 x 25 inches.
Still, it’s a convenient, portable, and durable workbench. It’s also one of the best space saving garage workbenches you will find.
- Lightweight, portable, and durable.
- A small work surface that isn’t perfectly flat.
- Clamps are not secure.
2 WEN 48-Inch Workbench – Best Traditional Garage Workbench
Dimensions: 48” x 25” x 62” LWH
Next up, we’re getting close to the $200 mark with the 48-Inch Workbench by WEN. This is much more of a traditional workstation than what we just saw with the Pegasus. So, it’s a more comfortable option for someone who’s on a stool working carefully on projects for long periods.
So, what do you get?
This whole unit involves a workbench, two drawers, a bottom shelf, a small top shelf with a light in it, and a pegboard for tools. The unit stands 62 inches tall, but the worktop is a comfortable 34 inches off the ground.
As a result, this height makes it one of the best sitting garage workbenches around. The whole thing weighs 88 ½ pounds, which isn’t too heavy but at least gives it a good start as an anchor.
Lots of storage…
The frame of the workbench is powder-coated steel and has plastic feet on the legs to avoid scratching your floor. The worktop is enameled HDF, which is somewhat durable and has a 220-pound capacity. Additionally, the lower shelf can hold another 200 pounds.
Although, we wish it was set back a bit so that stool legs could get closer to the workbench. The HDF pegboard completes the unit as a great way to organize and store your tools in easy reach.
The electrics on this workbench make it something special. It has an overhead fluorescent light to illuminate your workspace for those late-night projects. There’s also a triple plug on the side offering you three 13-amp power outlets.
What could be improved?
The drawers are HDF-lined and seem a bit flimsy. Don’t expect to store too many heavy tools in there for fear of them collapsing.
- Inexpensive for a complete lit workbench and pegboard unit.
- Lots of shelving for storage space.
- The drawers are flimsy.
- Worktop is only HDF, so it won’t hold up to heavy abuse.
3 Olympia Tools 48-Inch Hardwood Workbench – Best Hardwood Top Garage Workbench
Dimensions: 49.61” x 19.69” x 33.86” LWH
Next up in our Best Garage Workbenches reviews, with a price hovering near $200, we’re again treated to a very different sort of design with Olympia Tool’s 48-Inch Hardwood Workbench. This bench is made entirely of laminated acacia, a tropical hardwood. There is a cheaper but less durable rubberwood version available, but we’ll talk about the hardwood one here.
Build and features…
The unit weighs in at nearly 64 pounds, which is decent for a 50 x 20 inches bench, and will take on 330 pounds of loadbearing. It features a built-in vise that opens up to 7.87″, which is a big bite. It comes with pre-drilled dog holes and a set of four small metal pegs, and four long wooden pegs to go in them.
There’s also a single drawer large enough to store small bits and bobs or even hand tools as large as hammers. Under the worktop is a full-sized bottom shelf for storage of larger items. This makes it one of the best small tool storage garage workbenches around.
Finally, the top has a work trough running the length of the table on the far side, which allows you to store nuts and bolts, wood, small tools, and more for easy access. We’re looking at a sturdy bench with a good deal of storage and organization features.
So what’s not to like?
Both the shelf and the drawer are lined with thinner, cheaper laminate and don’t seem all that sturdy. The drawer slides are also made of light softwood that probably won’t be able to handle much of a load. Lastly, the handle of the vise has plastic tips that are of poor quality.
- Solid worktop that can handle loading and abuse.
- Comes with a built-in vise and dog holes plus pegs.
- The shelf and drawer seem flimsy.
- Height is set at 34 inches and can’t be adjusted.
4 Seville Classics UltraHD Lighted Workbench – Best Value for the Money Garage Workbench
Dimensions: 48” x 24” x 65.5” LWH
Moving up in price again, the Seville Classics UltraHD Lighted Workbench follows the same design as the WEN unit we saw earlier. It’s got a top-shelf, lighted worktop, drawer, and power outlets. It’s just missing the bottom shelf.
Built to last…
This heavy workbench, the heaviest on our list at 113 pounds, is made from stainless steel and powder-coated steel with a lacquered 1.5-inch thick beechwood worktop. That’s a durable hardwood that’s only slightly softer than acacia.
This is a beautiful unit, with the brushed stainless steel setting off the look of it. Almost seems too pretty to work on. Therefore, it’s one of the best heavy duty garage workbenches you can buy.
Some features make it very convenient…
There are leveling feet that screw in and out to set up on a less-than-level floor. It has a single drawer with two pulls, but it comes with two adjustable dividers with seven mounting positions. So you can separate it into three different sections or one big open drawer.
They’ve also got drawer liners included to stop your tools and parts from rolling around inside. The drawer can hold 60 pounds, while the whole unit can support up to 600 pounds of weight. Making it one of the best heavy loadbearing garage workbenches on the market.
Up from the worktop, there’s a pegboard with 23 hooks included. There’s also a small but useful shelf up there. We love that there is a built-in overhead cool white LED light under the shelf. There’s also a whopping 6-outlet power strip with dual USB charging ports and a 5.5-foot power cord to plug it in.
The only issue…
You need two outlets to plug in, one for the light and one for the power strip. Or you can run the light cord back down to plug into the power strip.
- Strong, sturdy, and beautiful.
- Has leveling feet for uneven floors.
- Comes with overhead light and a 6-outlet power strip.
- No bottom shelf for storage.
5 Fleximounts Work Bench – Best Small Project Garage Workbench
Dimensions: 48” x 24” x 37.4” LWH
This workbench by Fleximounts is right around the same price as the Seville Classics bench we just looked at. Its design, though, is a whole lot simpler.
This bench is constructed from a black powder-coated steel frame and a varnished 1-inch thick rubberwood worktop. Note that rubberwood, though moderately hard, is a lot softer than beech or acacia wood. We think the manufacturer definitely could have gone thicker than just 1-inch for this top.
On a strange note…
The manufacturer claims that this workbench can hold up to 3000 pounds, a claim we’re extremely suspicious of. If that were true, this would be one of the best garage workbenches ever created. We’re going to assume that was a typo, and they mean just 300 pounds.
Like the Seville Classics table, this one has adjustable leveling feet with rubber bottoms to protect your floor. These will make sure you can set up level on an uneven garage floor or even a slightly sloping driveway. Under the top, there’s a 26 x 12-inch drawer.
Great, but it’s very thin at only 1.57 inches in depth. It’s just enough for tools like pliers and screwdrivers to sit in it comfortably and without clutter, which is maybe a good thing.
Other than that…
There’s no pegboard, overhead shelf, or bottom shelf. There’s space for one, and you could use some lumber to build your own. However, you kind of want these things to come complete, right?
All in all, this is a very simple and not tremendously high-quality workbench. We think the manufacturer could have added value by using thicker, higher quality materials and providing more storage space.
- Has leveling feet for set up.
- Includes a thin drawer for tools and parts.
- Made from thin, less durable rubberwood.
- No lights, pegboard, or shelves are included.
6 GoPlus Adjustable Workbench – Best Height Adjustable Garage Workbench
Dimensions: 48’’ X 24’’X (28.5-42’’) LWH
As the price of these workbenches goes up, it seems like we’re getting less and less. Is that true of the GoPlus Adjustable Workbench as well?
At first glance, this 4 by 2-foot workbench is very similar to the Fleximounts bench we’ve just seen. After all, it’s got a worktop, and that’s it – no other bells and whistles, not even a drawer.
But it has something the others don’t…
The added value in this workbench comes from being an adjustable height table. It offers 15 different height settings, so the top of the workbench ranges from 28.5” to 42”.
That’s handy if you work on a variety of projects and need to stand, sit on a stool, or sit in a chair for different applications. Again, it has leveling feet for uneven floors. The result is one of the most convenient garage workbenches available.
Construction and quality…
The 86-pound bench is made of black powder-coated steel legs. It features a 1.5-inch thick laminated bamboo top coated with a UV-resistant varnish and slightly rounded corners to prevent accidental scrapes.
Laminated bamboo can take some abuse and is certainly eco-friendly. However, we’re skeptical that it will stand the test of time, especially in a humid environment.
The manufacturer claims this table can support 1500 pounds of weight which would be impressive if true. We hope they didn’t mean only 150 pounds this time.
All told, the dimensions of this table are normal, and the adjustable height makes it great for a variety of projects. However, we wish they’d made it from something more solid and durable to stand the test of time.
- Height is easy and fully adjustable.
- Includes leveling feet.
- The laminated bamboo worktop is unlikely to withstand abuse.
- No drawers or shelves for storage.
7 Fedmax Mobile Garage Workbench – Best Mobile Garage Workbench
Dimensions: 48″ x 20″ x (28-44″) LWH
If we had complaints about the previous adjustable height workbench, we’re getting a second chance to see if another manufacturer was able to do better.
This Mobile Garage Workbench weighs 76.8 pounds. It’s a simple construction once again. The bench is made with a 1″ thick solid acacia hardwood top on hammertone texture painted steel tube legs. This hammertone finish adds durability against scratches and dents.
Like the GoPlus bench, there are no shelves, drawers, or pegboards. There’s simply a worktop. However, we’re provided with a choice between leg levelers or heavy-duty locking casters. So, this workbench is mobile if needed.
You can even wheel it outside…
This bench has 14 different height settings, giving a worktop height range of 28-44″. Once again, this is very convenient if you tinker with a variety of projects that require you to use the table in different ways. Unfortunately, the bench gets a bit wobbly if you raise it to maximum height.
Construction-wise, while the bench seems durable, it isn’t well put together. Some holes don’t line up properly and take some force to assemble. The worktop was rough on the underside and required a sand, something you shouldn’t expect from a factory piece.
- Durable, hard acacia worktop.
- Adjustable height, with option leveling feet or casters provided.
- Not well put together.
- No storage areas for tools or materials.
8 Seville Classics UltraGraphite Wood Top Workbench – Best Premium Garage Workbench
Dimensions: 48” x 24” x 37.5” LWH
We’re going to finish up our review with a workbench that’s pushing $300. And guess what, it’s another offering from Seville Classics. This time, the design is a lot more basic than the UltraHD Lighted Workbench.
The UltraGraphite Wood Top Workbench is nearly 84 pounds of workspace. This unit is made up of a 1.5″ thick solid beechwood worktop finished in “UltraDurable” polyurethane. That sits on a steel frame in a tough “UltraGraphite” finish.
The whole unit moves around on four hard rubber 3″ casters with steel hardware or locks into place when need be. As a result, this is one of the most durable garage workbenches out there.
What else do you get?
This bench features the same single drawer with two stainless steel handles and two adjustable dividers with seven mounting positions. It also has drawer liners included keeping your tools and parts in place. The capacity is 500 pounds of evenly distributed weight, which you’ll notice is less than its cheaper brandmate.
We don’t even think the quality is any better on this bench. Its legs are made from thin steel and may not fare well if they ever take an impact.
Basic and expensive…
There’s no light, no pegboard, no power strip, and no upper shelf. The only improved feature seems to be ultra-durable paint that pushed the price up. We don’t think it’s worth it.
- Has solid casters.
- Includes a good drawer for storage.
- Very durable paint job.
- Most expensive bench on our list.
- No lights, outlets, or shelves to justify the extra cost.
Best Garage Workbenches Buying Guide
As with any purchase, there’s an endless line of products hoping to become yours. But a garage workbench is a pretty special item that has to match your needs. How you’re going to use it will dictate what you need to buy and help you eliminate the inappropriate items out there.
Here are some ideas to help you when making your purchase.
As a general rule, you’re going to have to pay more for a more durable workbench. That makes sense. The question is, what are you going to use it for?
Maybe you’re planning to cut lumber with power tools or clamping things down to your worktop. Or maybe you’ll be running heavy machines on top, like a miter saw or a drill press. For these uses, you’re going to need something strong and durable.
And don’t forget about the weight. A light bench will vibrate and move too much to handle power tools, while a heavy bench will stay put for you. On the other hand, if your work is more refined, like building small machines or assembling craft pieces, you can get away with something lightweight and cheaper.
Space and Storage
Space is a limiting factor in any garage workshop. Luckily, almost all the workbenches we’ve looked at take up the same footprint, about 4 x 2 feet. Well, that’s great, but imagine if you could fit double or triple the storage into that same area.
Many workbenches come with drawers, bottom shelves, and top shelves for storing parts and equipment. Some include the ever-handy pegboard, which is a great organizational system for your tools and materials. And it keeps everything at hand, too.
If space is at a premium, choose a premium bench that can help you keep things neat and organized.
Height and Mobility
For some garage tinkerers, all you need is a bench tucked in the corner that you can sit at for the occasional project. But others need more. Some benches offer adjustable height so you can stand up and work on things when you need to, and sit down when you need careful focus. Note that these benches usually don’t include a lot of storage – they need to stay mobile.
And speaking of mobility, some benches are on casters instead of feet. If you move your workbench around the garage or even take it on the road once in a while, this might be a feature you’d appreciate.

What are the Best Garage Workbenches?
When it comes to workbenches, there are as many styles out there as there are projects lined up on your To-Do list. But if we had to choose one from the best workbenches for garages, we have no trouble doing it.
Because of its great finish, solid construction, and built-in electrics, we can give that title to the…
With an overhead shelf, pegboard, and big adjustable drawer, this workbench has enough storage to keep things ship-shape. And for this price, we don’t think you’re going to find a better garage work station.
Still, other options might be better suited for some folks. Whichever workbench you choose for your garage, good luck with all your projects.
Until next time, may your DIYs bring you smiles.
