Best Motorcycle Covers In 2020 – Top 10 Rated Review
1 Dowco Guardian 50124 WeatherAll Plus Indoor/Outdoor Waterproof Motorcycle Cover – Most Durable Motorcycle Cover
Up first! A cover from the trusty Dowco brand. Well-known and widely-respected, Dowco have been at the forefront of cover design since 1977.
Made from Dowco’s Climashield Plus fabric, this cover offers amazing protection against the elements. Its super-strong, 300 denier polyester ensures total peace of mind. Plus, this material is backed up by heavy-duty sealed seam, making it extra tough and sturdy.
How does it keep the rain out?
A water-resistant topcoat sees to that. Even in the heaviest of storms, the water will just slide right off. And that Climashield Plus material has other benefits too. Both anti-microbial and anti-fungal, it avoids the risk of mold. The cover stays fresh, and your bike remains well defended.
So, that’s the outside. But how about the inside?
Our windshield is covered by a soft cotton lining. It removes any chance of scratches and keeps the bike safely nestled in for the winter. It also has thick, cotton, heat shields too, to avoid a hot exhaust melting the cover!
It’s designed for sports bikes only. If you’re a Royal Enfield rider, this is not the cover for you!
- Awesome, weather-resistant, fabric.
- Built-in alarm pocket.
- Compression storage bag.
- Not for street bikes.
2 AmazonBasics Deluxe Motorcycle Cover, Cruiser – Best Basic Motorcycle Cover
Another polyester cover here. This one offers fade-proof and water resistance properties, meaning that not only will the bike stay dry, but the cover will also remain in great condition.
Our two favorite things have to be the secure placement and ease of use. And we have an elastic hem to thank for both. It allows the cover to slip on smoothly and retains a tight grip around the bike.
Plus, for added security, we also have hooks and bungee cords, with reinforced grommets. Simply snap the hook under the bike, and there they will firmly stay. Removes any possibility of the cover blowing away in bad weather!
What else do we like about this cover?
Inside, we find heat covers. No need to wait for the bike to cool down, just throw the cover on as soon as you’ve parked.
So far, so good, right? So, what’s the catch?
It is a little on the basic side. It would be nice to have a few extra lines of defense in there. And it’s for cruiser style bikes, so Harley riders only!
So no, it’s probably not one of the best covers for motorcycles that we’ve seen. But, it’s still pretty decent for the price. We can leave our bike, safe in the knowledge it will be well protected.
- Budget friendly.
- One-year warranty.
- Very simple.
- Only for cruisers.
3 XYXTCTEM All Season Black Waterproof Sun Motorcycle Cover – Best Budget Motorcycle Cover
Cheap and cheerful
Unusually, this cover does not feature polyester. Instead, we find 210D Oxford fabric.
Is this a good thing?
Well, yes and no. This material is extremely lightweight. It is super soft, meaning there is absolutely no risk of it causing scratches or any other damage to the bike. It is not a heavy-duty motorcycle cover. But, it is water-resistant, not waterproof. For most types of weather, this would be fine. In heavy storms, however, it might let water in.
And it isn’t as tough as other materials. Being so soft, it has a higher risk of tearing. So be careful not to catch it on the handlebars when removing it from your bike!
Practical and versatile…
On the plus side, this product really does cover every inch of the bike! And it includes two windproof buckles and two aluminum lock holes. This offers an additional layer of security and shield from harm.
This is definitely on the wallet friendly side of things! The cheaper, softer fabric really brings the price down. And as an added bonus, it’s large enough to cover a range of bikes, so it can be used for sports and road bikes alike.
- Fantastic price.
- Great coverage.
- Locking capabilities.
- Water-resistant, not waterproof.
4 Waterproof Motorcycle Cover, All Weather Outdoor Protection – Best Motorcycle Cover for Large Bikes
Whatever the weather
A massive option up next! This one is XXL. It can cover any motorcycle, up to a whopping 104 inches!
With this item, we find more of that soft 210D Oxford fabric. But unlike other covers, this one is actually waterproof! In fact, it can withstand a massive 200 PA of water pressure!
Well, thanks to an amazing waterproof layer! There’s no chance of any water seeping in here. In addition to that outer layer, we also find an inner polyurethane film. There’s even an extra waterproof strip around the bottom, to really ensure dryness!
OK, so, we know it’s great in the rain. But how does it hold up against other kinds of weather?
Windproof buckles and an adjustable elasticated band mean that this cover can easily withstand the pressures of wind. What’s more, it has anti-scratch, anti-aging, and even anti-ultraviolet properties! In stormy weather or sun, this product really holds its own.
What about security?
Cloth lock holes see to that. They add an increased level of security, keeping the bike safe from theft. And as they’re fabric rather than metal, they won’t rust. Of course, the downside to that is that metal is stronger. A determined thief could potentially cut through the cloth.
But that’s a minor criticism. All in all, this is a fantastic option! We like this cover a lot!
- Amazing weather resistant qualities
- Can withstand very high water pressure.
- Fabric lock holes are less secure than metal.
5 Formosa Covers Premium Heavy Duty Motorcycle Cover XXL – Best Large Tourer Motorcycle Cover
He ain’t heavy; he’s my cover!
Security is the name of the game here! This cover comes with a free metal cable and lock for added protection against theft!
This item fits motorbikes up to an enormous 108 inches! A fully equipped Honda Goldwing will be completely covered. It’s perfect for riders who prefer dressed touring bikes, without the hassle of removing panniers.
And it’s heavy, too…
Thick polyester gives it a massive amount of heft. We can be sure that this cover will be totally unaffected by wind.
Now sometimes, these super weighty motorcycle shelters can have problems with mildew. Not here, though! Flow-through vents allow air to pass and any residual moisture to escape.
So, it’s perfect for windy weather! How does it cope with rain?
While it is water repellent, it is not waterproof. There is a slight chance of wetness seeping in. But, thanks to a UV coating, this is pretty unlikely to happen!
It even has a thick layer of rubber around the bottom. Rubber does a great job of repelling water. We get an added layer of defense against even the strongest rainfall.
Inside we find those useful nylon heat shields. This cover won’t be melted by a hot exhaust! And we also have a soft fabric lining for the windshield to minimize scratching.
A great option if you’re looking for a touring motorcycle cover!
- Strong, heavy-duty material.
- Lock and cable included.
- UV coated with rubber base.
- Much too big for smaller or sport bikes!
6 Nuzari Waterproof Polyester Outdoor Motorcycle Cover – Best Waterproof Motorcycle Cover
The perfect fit
‘An ounce of prevention is worth ten pounds of cure.’ That’s the motto of Nuzari, the manufacturer of this next item. And this cover sure does reflect that!
This is a thoughtfully designed product. It takes into account every possible need a bike might have.
Let’s find out more!
Outside, we find high vis reflective stripes. No space for the bike on your property? It will be easily seen by other road users from half a mile away, even in low light.
And we get a logo that sits over the sprocket. This is to ensure we’ve put the cover on correctly. If the logo isn’t on the sprocket, then we’ve done something wrong!
Inside, soft heat guards protect the cover from a scorching hot exhaust. Vents remove the threat of rust or mildew. And the careful design allows air to easily pass through, without the cover billowing up around the bike.
And what’s the best part?
It is waterproof! Unlike others, which are water-resistant, this one actually keeps every drop of rain out. It offers maximum protection for your motorcycle, in any kind of weather.
Oh, and with the luggage strap and elasticated hem, we know it will wrap snugly around the bike.
- Excellent visibility.
- Fantastic protection from the elements.
- Ventilation system.
- So far, we haven’t found any!
7 Badass Moto Ultimate Motorcycle Cover. Supreme Waterproof Outdoor Storage – Best All Round Motorcycle Cover
Though fairly lightweight, this cover is made from 300 denier polyester. It’s seriously sturdy stuff! It offers great protection against dust, dirt, wind; you name it!
And as well as being completely waterproof, the UV coating makes it resistant to sunlight too. Your paintwork and leather have no chance of fading. This bad boy shields them from the sun entirely.
Plus, it’s backed up by taped seams…
These gives us yet another layer of shelter. This reinforcement means we have extra peace of mind that no harm can come to our motorcycle.
There are a few pretty cool design features too. We’ve come to expect additions like heat shields, but this one has a couple of other aspects!
Let’s check them out…
A handy little pocket means we have a place to put a bike alarm. It doesn’t stick out obtrusively though; it’s well-hidden — a fantastic way to keep the motorbike safe.
And for additional safety, heavy-duty grommets will keep a lock in place. Plus, the adjustable strap with a metal buckle is guaranteed to slow down thieves!
There has to be a downside, though, right?
Not really! We definitely get what we pay for, with this amount of quality!
- Completely weatherproof.
- Hidden alarm pocket.
- Nope! We love this!
8 Nelson Rigg UV-2000 Motorcycle Half Cover – Best Motorcycle Half Cover
Sung as a bug in a rug
Short on space? Need to make a quick getaway? Perhaps this could be the cover for you!
As we can see, this is a motorcycle half cover. Full covers are great, but they can be awkward to handle, especially if we’re in a hurry. With this cover, it’s easily fitted and removed.
It will comfortably encase handlebars, mirrors, and the seat on any large touring bike. Tight elastic in the hem means a snug fit. There’s little chance of this cover flying away in the wind.
A little overexposed…
But of course, the negative of this is that so much of the bike is exposed. Tires and paintwork could easily be marked or harmed. For 100% protection, we’d need to choose a different product.
Having said that, the parts of the bike that are covered are shielded very well! The treated nylon does an awesome job of blocking out the sun. Caught in a sudden shower? Throw this on, and your saddle will remain perfectly dry.
A superb portable option…
And because it’s a half cover, it’s a lot smaller than other items on this list. It’s great for travel, as it won’t take up too much space in the top box. The stuff sack is a real bonus here too.
And just one more thing; it’s pretty easy on the pocket book too!
- Portable motorcycle cover.
- Snug fit.
- Does not cover the whole bike.
- Nylon can tear easily.
9 Tokept Black And Orange Sun Motorcycle Cover – Best Harley Davidson Motorcycle Cover
Big and bold
Even undercover, your motorcycle is sure to catch anyone’s eye, with this super striking product! In dazzling black and orange, we get maximum daytime visibility here. Need to park on the road? The bike is sure to be easily seen by distracted car drivers or cyclists.
Made from lightweight 190T Oxford fabric, this feels like quite a delicate cover.
Is it durable enough?
For indoor use, yes! To prevent dust or animals from damaging a bike, this is a great choice. It offers full coverage and is gentle enough to avoid the risk of scratching.
But for outdoor use, we’re not so sure. It’s so light, we worry about it blowing away in the wind. We’re just not sure how well it will hold up when faced with a gale.
Come rain, come shine…
Having said that, it does have a great waterproof coating! Heavy rain should present no problems here. It will keep the motorcycle entirely free of moisture.
And it is seriously big! It can fit a bike measuring up to an enormous 116 inches! If we tried to use it on a sports bike, it would be completely drowned by it!
And if you’re a Harley rider?
Not only is this large enough for your Road King, but it also comes in those classic Harley colors! Rock those retro Harley vibes, even when the bike is parked!
- Stunning colors.
- Highly visible.
- One of the best indoor motorcycle covers.
- Might not stand up to strong winds.
10 UltraGard 4-458BK Black Touring Motorcycle Half Cover – Most Durable Motorcycle Half Cover
And finally, we have another half cover! Could this be one of the best motorcycle covers out there?
Well, we have to admit, it’s rather good! Made from polyurethane coated polyester, it provides a really high level of protection. It’s water-resistant, not 100% waterproof, but we’d feel pretty confident using this even during heavy rainfall.
Double-stitched seams give an extra layer of durability. This is a seriously robust motorcycle cover! It’s strong enough that we can be sure tears and rips will be avoided.
And it fits tightly too…
Bungee cords and an elasticated hem see to that. Plus, it has zippered pockets that expand, meaning it will fit any bike shape. We get an extra safety feature too. The logo on the side is reflective. Drivers can clearly see your parked bike, even in unlit areas.
But nothing is perfect, is it?
As it’s a half cover, it leaves parts of the bike unprotected. It might not be the best if we’re leaving the bike exposed for long periods or in extreme weather. But that also means it’s smaller! So, it’s easily transportable. It will squeeze unobtrusively inside a pannier, wrapped in its own little pouch.
And just in case all that all hasn’t convinced you, it comes with a five-year warranty too.
- Reflective safety logo.
- Extremely sturdy.
- Long warranty.
- Half cover, so the bike is exposed.
Best Motorcycle Covers Buyers Guide
The first thing we need to think about when choosing the best motorcycle cover is location. Where are we going to park it? How is the climate?
For places with a lot of heavy rainfall, we need to look for something that will keep out every raindrop. Watch out for whether it is water-resistant or waterproof! Water-resistance is usually great, but for extremely strong downpours, we need something waterproof.
What If You Have The Opposite Problem? What If You Live Near Death Valley, With The Hot Desert Sun Beating Down?
UV protection is what we need here. Ideally, we’d like it to have a top coating that offers defense against the sun. Not only will this protect your paintwork and leather, but it will also prevent the bag from fading too.
Maybe It Is Very Windy Where You Live?
A heavy-duty motorcycle cover is key here. We don’t want it to blow away in a gale, do we?
Is The Bike Staying Outside, Or Will It Be Sheltering In The Garage?
Different materials can have different benefits in this regard. If the bike is inside, lighter nylon can be a good choice here. It will keep out pollution and dust but doesn’t need to defend against poor weather. Careful though! Nylon can tear easily!
Outdoor bikes have more to contend with. A robust fabric would be better in this situation.
And another thing to think about with an outdoor bike is security. We want a place to put a lock or chain. We would prefer a cover with a metal grommet, for that extra little bit of safety.
How Does The Cover Stay On The Bike?
Bungee cords or a strap with buckles? Bungees are awesome for ease of use, but a buckle has the bonus of preventing theft.
We also need to look at the bottom of the cover here. The best quality motorcycle covers have an elastic hem. This both stops the cover from falling off and helps to prevent water from coming in.
If the bike is on the road, safety can be a concern. We’ve all experienced a driver not paying attention! A high-vis or reflective strip is a great idea in this situation.
And then there are those little extras. At a minimum, we expect heat shields, so we don’t have to wait for the exhaust to cool down. But things like pockets and inner windshield padding are nice to have too.
Wow! Who knew there was so much to consider?
